Are you throwing or attending a holiday party this year? Any ideas/tips to share?
If you've got a Mac, definitely do some Photo Booth fun. Upload good picts to Flickr using FlickrBooth (http://www.otierney.net/flickrbooth). And finally you can have a nice slideshow right out of Flickr using PicLens (http://piclens.com/mac/) and a Mac hooked up to a TV.
If you've got a Wii, definitely create a Mii for each person who comes to your party. Play Wii Baseball and Wii Bowling and record the footage with all your friends hanging out in the scene, then you can use some overdub action and create funny movies.
Have you ever Googled your own name? How did you feel about the results?

All my blogs and other pages came back. It's a bit creepy...
One of the things I love about OS X Tiger is its elegant UI. It has all these trademark aqua UI elements and nice animations, but never intrusive. You can't say that about XP or Vista.
Today, I found this clip on YouTube.
One word for you: puke
There is such a thing as too much eye candy. I predict the future is about simplicity and elegance. Designing the UI will become an art of understanding the balance between taking advantage of the graphic power of the latest hardware and how to make tasks easy for you without being intrusive.
After listening to the episode 112 of dl.tv podcast, and hearing about Photographer's Rights, I did a little google search to find this.
...there are not very many legal restrictions on what can be photographed when in public view. Most attempts at restricting photography are done by lower-level security and law enforcement officials acting way beyond their authority.
What does this mean? It means as long as you are in the US, there aren't much you can't photograph in the public places. Of course this does not include obvious illegal practices such as up-skirt shots. ;-P
So all you paparazzi, I suggest you go out and take photographs of unreasonable corporate practices. If an uninformed security guard come after your arse, stick that Photographer's Rights in their faces.
Unusually flooded streets of Japan at midnight. What's going on!?
Sony's next generation console PS3 went on sale at the midnight of Nov. 11th. As seen from the image above (courtesy of asahi.com) the store is crowded as hell. As reported by many, PS3 supply is thinner than initially anticipated. This is causing the apparent chaos and panic among people who waited for the arrival of the next gen console for quite some time. We'll see how long the supply will last. A few hours? Several hours? A whole day!?!?
I found this blog entry via digg. [link]
Ransom Love was a CEO of now a rotten POS company SCO, which used to develop Caldera, and later pursued sueing Linux companies left and right claiming SCO owned a lot of code replicated in Linux sources. The ex-CEO claims that these lawsuits were bogus and that SCO had not much ground in claiming such ownership. The suits have been going for a while now, but Ransom's declaration may finally put an end to all this bull...
No, I'm not trying to confuse you. iLike is a brand new website, coupled with an iTunes add-on software. This add-on software along with the website is probably the best website for discovering new music.
iLike is the sibling site for garageband.com, which I remember has nothing to do with GarageBand, the Apple software, but came out about the same time. (hm... is it really a coincidence??)
garageband.com is a community based music sharing site where you can upload your music under Creative Commons license (or something like that) and share your creation with the world.
iLike acts as an aggregation site which provides an easier interface to browse through the garageband content as well as discover other main stream music through their interface, very much similar to last.fm.
But what makes iLike the best in its class is the iTunes add-on component. After installing the software, your iTunes will gain an additional drawer on the side. At the time of writing, Friends tab and Profile tab are somewhat incomplete. Understandable considering this software is in its development phase. Regardless, the default Related tab is simply amazing.
As you play the music you obtained through iTMS, by ripping your CD, or by any other means necessary, if the song is found on iLike database, the Related tab is suddenly filled with related music. The tab is divided into two parts. On top you see "Relate Music"
The bottom half of the tab intrigued me much more though. It focuses on grabbing garageband.com content and let you download them for free.
You might think "a free song by some amateurs who think they are the dope making music in GarageBand or ACID?" You are utterly mistaken. The artists you find on garageband.com are more often than you think under appreciated, undiscovered real deals. I must have discovered and downloaded over 10 songs today alone. And these are 10+ tunes that impressed me.
The site & app are still in its alpha-beta-ish phase, but so far I haven't had much problem using the app and iLike.com is an awesome site. Highly recommended.
I have 30 mins commute, and iPod nano is my friend. The commute usually ends up being the podcast hour for me. It's my poor attempt to keep up with craze in the world. For some reasons new Inside the Net and TWiT shows I d/led last night weren't on my iPod.
Sh*t.
After looking through my playlists and determined nothing was appealing, I turned to my "Purchased" playlist: one of the default smart playlists that has all of the stuff originated from iTMS. I saw "New Shoes" in there. Hey, there's nothing else. I hit enter wondering if the song was gonna be a complete disappointment or a gem. A catchy easy listening blues pop track started playing. Lyrics went like this:
i'm looking tired and feeling quite sick,
i felt like there was something missing in my day to day life,
so i quickly opened the wardrobe,
pulled out some jeans and a T-Shirt that seemed clean,
topped it off with a pair of old shoes,
that were ripped around the seams,
and i thought these shoes just don't suit me.
Hey, I put some new shoes on,
and suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling,
it so inviting,
Oh, short on money,
but long on time,
slowly strolling in the sweet sunshine,
and i'm running late,
and i dont need an excuse,
'cause i'm wearing my brand new shoes.
"Hey, if you don't like your life the way it is, here's what you do. Stop, turn around, and try to walk the opposite direction. Don't run. Just walk."
